Men for the Gospel, Men for the City: Dublin Conference Recap

On Saturday 18th April, the Dublin Collective hosted its first Men’s Conference at Immanuel Church.

60 men came along from churches across the city. It was a simple morning of teaching, worship, and conversation, with time to connect over coffee and around tables.

What Happened on the Day

The morning included two teaching sessions from Neil MacMillan, of City to City Europe, on the theme:

“Men for the Gospel, for the City.”

We also heard from Josh McCance, who shared about planting and serving in Balbriggan, and what it looks like to love and stay committed to a specific place over time.

There was space throughout the morning for conversation and prayer, which ended up being one of the most valuable parts of the day.

A Mix of Churches

One of the most encouraging things was having men from different churches in the same room.

Each church was only represented by a few people, but together it made for a good sense of connection across the city. It was a reminder that we are part of something bigger than our own local context.

Key Themes

A couple of ideas came through clearly during the morning.

1. The gospel shapes how we live
The teaching focused on how the message of Jesus is not just something we believe, but something that shapes everyday life.

2. Loving the city is practical
There was a strong emphasis on being committed to where we live. Not just thinking about “the city” in general, but actually knowing people, building relationships, and staying present over time.

Josh’s story in Balbriggan helped make this very concrete.

Why It Matters

There was a sense that this kind of gathering is helpful and needed.

Bringing men together across churches:

  • Builds relationships

  • Encourages people in their faith

  • Helps us see what God is doing beyond our own church

Looking Ahead

We’re really grateful to everyone who came along and contributed to the morning.

Our hope is that what was shared continues to work its way into everyday life, in churches, in neighbourhoods, and across Dublin.

This felt like a good starting point, and something worth building on.
